New light-emitting floor tiles unveiled in London

August 08, 2022
Do you know that there are potentially huge amounts of energy on the bustling streets with hundreds of thousands of passengers daily? Although many people had previously thought of using the footsteps of huge passengers to generate electricity, they have not yet come out of commercialization. After the London Olympic Games, Laurence Kembell-Cook, the founder of Pavegen's footstep power generation system, received the first commercial order in September 2012. They need to serve the Olympic Stadium and Stratford City. There are 20 Pawi base tiles laid out on the streets of the shopping center.

Pawi tile is designed for high traffic areas. When people walk on the floor tiles, 5% of the energy is used to power the low-power LED lights in the floor tiles, and the remaining 95% of the energy can be stored in the lithium-ion polymer battery in the floor tile for up to 3 days and can be used for other purposes. Equipment power, such as street lights, displays, signal lights, or speakers. Pawi tile is made of stainless steel and recyclable material. Its green surface is made of recycled old tires. The internal elements are recycled aluminum.

If a pedestrian walks on a floor tile, 5% of the energy generated by the stampede will be collected and used to light one LED in the center of the tile. The remaining energy will be stored in the battery and can be stored for up to three days. This stored power can be used for many low power applications. In other words, once such tiles are used, when people come and go on the street, many of the energy they step on will be collected and used, and these pedestrians may not even know that they are contributing to power generation. .

It is reported that this kind of luminous floor tile is very popular now. It can be used as a tile directly with a little modification, and its production materials are recycled old automobile tires. It is very environmentally friendly. When this product was unveiled at the exhibition, it immediately attracted the attention of many people in the industry. They rushed in line to experience the feeling of stepping on tiles.

This product is currently undergoing final stage testing. According to the design, such a light-emitting tile made of old tires can withstand at least 8 million times of stamping during its service life. The data shows that every time you step on the pedal, you can let the LED flash for 30 seconds. When the first year of Stratford City Shopping Center is expected to reach 3 million, Lawrence believes that if these steps are fully utilized, 3 million passengers The generated electricity can meet half of the external power needs of the mall.
