US SETI's first SMD packaging equipment UV TOP LED offline

The UVTOP equipment of SMD package produced by American sensor electronics company SETi has completed product qualification, and its first products have been shipped from the mass production line.

It is understood that this growth plan originated in October 2011, SETi invested 20 million US dollars for new mass production equipment, and expanded its advanced technology center. The first LEDs on the new line are UVC LEDs for use in sterilizing appliances with a wavelength of 275 nm to provide sterilizing UVC LEDs for the consumer market.

The mainstream disinfection market is very price sensitive, but SETi says it has repriced the standard SMD UV LEDs that are built on new production lines that compete with traditional light sources.

Dr. Remis Gaska, President and CEO, said, “The new mass production equipment allows SETi to focus part of its business on manufacturing, which can reduce costs through operational methods and increased production. As a standard SMD product, UVC LEDs are basically price. Flat with traditional white LEDs, giving new products the opportunity to take advantage of UV LEDs into new consumer markets.

UV LEDs of other wavelengths are waiting for certification on SETi's high-volume production line, and LEDs with a wavelength of 310nm are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2013.
