Vishay launches new high-strength SMD LED based on sapphire
July 07, 2021
To meet the growing demand for white LEDs, Vishay has announced a new line of high-strength white SMD LEDs based on sapphire that delivers efficient InGaN technology at a very low price SMD LED lights.
These new VLMW41xx series of SMD LED devices provide low-cost illumination for a wide range of applications, including backlighting in automotive dashboards and switches; indicator lights and backlights in telecommunications systems, audio and video equipment, and office equipment; LCDs, switches, and general-purpose signs Flat backlight.
These devices have a half-intensity angle of 60°, a very high light intensity of 112mcd to 355mcd, and a typical color temperature of 5500K. These LEDs have an ESD withstand voltages up to 2kV and are compliant with the JESD22-A114-B specification SMD LED lamp beads.
These new devices are available in EIA and ICE standard PLCC-2 packages consisting of leadframes embedded in white thermoplastic. The reflective layer within the package is filled with a mixture of epoxy and TAG phosphor. The TAG phosphor converts the emitted blue portion into yellow light, while the yellow light mixes with the rest of the blue light to produce white light.
The PLCC-2 package preconditioned according to the JEDEC Level 2a standard is lead (Pb) free and RoHS compliant. CECC compatibility with infrared, gas and wave soldering processes and automated placement equipment and IR reflow simplifies processing and automated assembly operations. These VLMW41xx devices were validated against AEC Q101.
Samples and production quantities of VLMW41xx high-strength SMD LEDs in 8-mm tape and reel packaging are available now, with lead times of five weeks for larger orders.
